All 214 Wainwrights, Unsupported - Chris Gaskin Attempting New Record!
Project 214 – The 214 Wainwrights, Unsupported
Why do this?
Military veteran Christopher, wants to do something to support those that served and continue to serve. The hope is that Project 214 raises much needed funds and awareness for the charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW). WWTW supports disadvantaged veterans who have served in the Armed Forces and their families, empowering them to regain their independence, thrive and contribute in our communities. WWTW have adapted and will continue to support our ex-service community during this difficult time. WWTW has worked in partnership with the NHS for many years and during this period, will continue those partnerships to respond wherever possible to support our incredible NHS.

So, what is Project 214?
Project 214 involves climbing to the top of all 214 Wainwright fells in the Lake District, England without any external assistance, carrying everything needed for the challenge. Food, mapping, cooking and camping equipment, water, spare clothing, safety and first aid equipment etc. The pack is expected to weigh in excess of 20kg. The total distance is 520-540kms and includes 95,000ft of ascent. That’s the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest 4 times!!
Christopher is attempting to become the first person to complete a solo, unsupported and continuous round of the 214 Wainwright fells in the Lake District, England.
What is unsupported?
For an adventure to be unsupported, you must carry everything (except water) you need from the start. The FKT (Fastest Known Time) website provides a clear definition. https://fastestknowntime.com/route/wainwrights-214-uk
Chris is hoping to not only break the current unsupported record of 150 peaks, set by Ascendancy founder Laurie Crayston earlier this month, but also to become the first person to complete the round of 214 unsupported.
All other previous continuous completions of the Wainwrights have involved some form of pre-arranged support; whether assisted by support teams, stay in accommodation (barns, hostels), medical support, nutrition, logistics, navigation, stash boxes of food & fresh clothing left along the route, etc.
These challenges are therefore classed as ‘supported’ or ‘self-supported’
When is Christopher starting?
Christopher will look to start the challenge on 18th May and is looking to complete the round in 14 days.
