The Arthur Baxter Mountain Marathon 2016

We are proud to be sponsoring Arthur Baxter's Mountain Marathon. The event, in memory of a truly great man, and in aid of a truly great cause, is something which we are wholeheartedly behind and honoured to be involved with.

Arthur Baxter

05th October 2015: The world lost a truly great man, inspirational community figure and the kindest soul. Arthur Baxter passed away from secondary brain cancer. He had battled cancer since 2008 as it metastasised through his body for 7 years.

After completing his apprenticeship as an Electrical Engineer in Lancashire, he decided to move near Lake District - a dream come true. Most of his childhood holidays were within the Lake District.

From 16 years old, Arthur was always involved with charities and community events in some capacity. He made friends with people from all around the world and although their location was far away, Arthur was always close in spirit.

Arthur influenced so many people's lives and is missed by all who knew him. Even though he has gone, he still continues to inspire us...

The Event

On the 29th May 2016, Arthur's son Tez, and 9 others, will walk from Ennerdale Bridge to Saeathwaite, Keswick across the Fells via Scafell Pike. This route will cover 10 Wainwrights: Red Pike, High Stile, High Crag, Haystacks, Brandreth, Green Gable, Great Gable, Scafell Pike, Allen Crags, Glaramara.

This will be the first instance of a new fund raising event for Cancer Research and Macmillan Nurses. The time taken will be recorded and in subsequent years groups of up to 10 people will be challenged to beat the time, raising funds for the same charities in the process.
